Why is it that I wake in the morning not feeling refreshed?

 

 Often this is because your sleep patterns are off.

You may not be running through your sleep stages as you should be thus creating a very tired “you” in the morning.  Typically you spend 20% of your sleep in REM (rapid eye movement) if you are not getting that type of sleep you will wake not feeling refreshed. 

 


Feeling Groggy and Sleepy…Here’s why?

If you are not completing your sleep cycle the way we are meant to you will awake in the morning feeling groggy and sleepy for the whole day.  This is often the direct result of not getting enough NREM (non rapid eye movement)

So what can I do about getting more REM or NREM?

Until recently I would tell my clients that they had to figure out what was disturbing their sleep by putting a tape recorder in the room that would activate during sounds (Radio Shack has these).

My first advice is to get a Sleep mate or ear plugs (These are the best price and as comfy as ear plugs can be).  Another solution would be to listen to classical music that would help aid you into the different sleep modes.  Typically what stops you from having your perfect cycle has everything to do with outside noise.  Maybe your neighbor gets up at 3 am because their sleep is off.  Maybe the sounds of the pipes in your house go off waking you out of one of your states.  It could be as simple as snoring.  Sometimes your own snoring will wake you up but you will not be aware of it.
